Robinia stakes and fencing for livestock
Cattle, sheep, horses, game: a livestock fence stays in the ground for decades. For it, we produce robinia (black locust) stakes and posts, with no treatment at all, in our factory in Romania. They leave by truck for fencing contractors, agricultural merchants and farms across Europe.
Which product for which fence
Cattle pasture, electric or barbed wire: debarked, pointed round stakes, or sawn agricultural stakes with bark (entry level) — Stakes, Round stakes, Sawn stakes
Sheep, goats, sheep netting: round line stakes; stronger posts at the corners — Round stakes
Horse paddocks and arenas: posts & rails (mortised posts and rails), or debarked round stakes and half-round rails — Posts & rails, Rails
Game enclosures, forest fencing: round stakes from 2.50 to 3.50 m, large posts for the corners — Round stakes, Large posts
Corners, gates, tension points: large-diameter posts, square stakes or square posts — Large posts, Square stakes
Field entrances and passages: small gates and field gates — Gates
Fencing off areas, protecting hedges and young plantations: cleft paling in rolls — Robinia cleft paling
All dimensions are in the technical sheets.
Sizing your fence correctly
One-third rule: one third of the stake in the ground. A 2 m stake gives a fence of about 1.30 m, a 2.50 m stake about 1.70 m. Details: stake height and spacing.
Corners and tension points: one size larger than the line stakes.
Common lengths: from 1.20 to 3.50 m, including 2.50 m and 3.50 m, which are hard to find. Diameters are measured at the middle of the stake.
Round, sawn or split? Round is the strongest and keeps its strength. Sawn is regular and cheaper. Guide: round, sawn or split stake.
Installation: by hand, with a sledgehammer or with a post driver. See post drivers and fence installation.

Why robinia for a livestock fence
No treatment: no preservative in the pasture soil, nor in contact with the animals.
Durable: class 1-2 according to EN 350:2016. Our experience: up to 30 years in the ground, depending on the soil. By comparison, in the ground: oak 10 to 15 years, chestnut 15 to 20 years.
Exception: the small 6-8 cm round stake, from young trees, does not last as long. In this diameter, choose the 5×5 square stake instead.
Horses: choose debarked stakes. Horses must not eat robinia bark.
Limits: more expensive to buy than a pressure-treated pine stake; the appearance varies from one piece to another. Comparisons: robinia or chestnut, robinia or pressure-treated pine.
Pallets and trucks
Delivery by full pallets, for example 150 round stakes of 6-8 cm or 80 of 10-12 cm per pallet.
A full truck carries about 1,760 stakes of 2 m in 10-12 cm, on average 30 m³ / 24 t.
Mixed truck: stakes, corner posts, rails and cleft paling can be combined in one load.
Number per pallet and per truck, weight per stake: tables in our products.
