Robinia wood for playgrounds and local authorities

We produce untreated robinia (black locust), prepared for public spaces. Sanded poles without sapwood, boards, decking, shingles and pavers leave our factory in Romania. They go by truck to playground manufacturers, landscapers and timber merchants who carry out projects for local authorities, all over Europe.

What we deliver for public spaces

  • Play structures, huts, climbing trails: sanded poles without sapwood, chamfered, Ø 6 to 40 cm, up to 13 m — Sanded round posts

  • Large structures, masts, frames: large poles from 4 to 13 m, Ø 10 to 40 cm — Large poles

  • Benches, tables, planters, railings: edged or unedged boards, grades AB and C — Boards

  • Decking, jetties, terraces: finger-jointed decking boards — Decking

  • Shelters, covered play areas, kiosks: 45 cm shingles — Shingles

  • Paths, stepping stones: end-grain wood pavers — Paving

  • Playground fencing, flowerbed protection: stakes, rails, cleft palings — Stakes, Rails, Robinia cleft paling

All dimensions are in the technical data sheets.

Prepared for public spaces

  • Sanded poles: bark and sapwood fully removed, ends chamfered; delivered unmachined, ready to be machined. Only the heartwood remains, the durable part of the wood.

  • Machining at the factory: cutting to length, chamfering, flattening, drilling Ø 20 to 50 mm, pointing. Send us a drawing or a cutting list.

  • No treatment: no preservative, neither on delivery nor on cut ends.

Playgrounds: the EN 1176 standard

EN 1176 covers the safety of the finished equipment. It does not require any particular wood species. We supply the wood; design, installation and compliance of the equipment are the responsibility of the manufacturer or installer. Details: playgrounds and schoolyards in robinia: what the EN 1176 standard says.

Why robinia in public spaces

  • Durability: class 1-2 according to EN 350:2016, the most durable European wood. Our experience: up to 30 years in ground contact without treatment, depending on the soil, and up to 60 years above ground.

  • Robust: a hard, dense wood (0.70–0.90 t/m³ depending on moisture) that withstands impacts. Graffiti or scratches can be sanded off.

  • No preservation maintenance: it turns grey within one to three years, without losing its durability.

  • Simple end of life: untreated wood can be recovered as firewood.

  • Limits: it costs more to buy than pressure-treated pine, and very long straight lengths are rare. Full cost and maintenance: robinia street furniture for local authorities.

Documents for your tenders

With each delivery, we provide our customers with:

  • the FSC® certificate (chain of custody, licence C153588); FSC® 100% delivery on request;

  • Romanian forest traceability (SUMAL);

  • Romanian EUDR documentation: traceability and documents provided; (SUMAL);

  • the ISO 9001:2015 certificate;

  • the technical data sheets for the products delivered.

In a tender specification, describe a performance rather than a species: for example "natural durability class 1-2 according to EN 350, use class 4 without treatment". This is not legal advice. See also our FSC® certification.

One truck can combine several products (sanded poles, boards, shingles…). On average 30 m³ / 24 t per truck. Send your cutting list or drawing: reply within 24 hours. Request a quote

  • You are a local authority or project designer: your project goes through the contractor who builds it. Write to us: we will put you in touch with a distributor or landscaper in your region who works with our wood. The documents above are passed on to you through them.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. EN 1176 covers the safety of the equipment, not the wood species. Compliance of the equipment is the responsibility of its manufacturer or installer.

Does the wood need treatment?

No. Robinia heartwood is used in use class 4, in ground contact, without preservative.

Can you cut and drill parts to a drawing?

Yes: cutting to length, chamfering, flattening, drilling and pointing, at the factory. Send us the cutting list.

Which documents do you provide for a public tender?

To the contractor awarded the tender: the FSC® certificate (chain of custody C153588), SUMAL traceability, the ISO 9001:2015 certificate and the technical data sheets.
