Black locust woodchips and biomass fuel

We have been producing our own woodchips since June 2026, directly downstream of our sawmill. The raw material does not come from anywhere else: it is the by-product of our own sawmill — slabs, edgings, offcuts, treetops. Nothing leaves the plant without having been put to use.
Three grades: G30, G50, G100
G30 — fraction ≤ 30 mm — small and medium-output automatic boilers (indicative equivalent P31S).
G50 — fraction ≤ 50 mm — district and industrial heating plants (indicative equivalent P45S).
G100 — fraction ≤ 100 mm — combined heat and power and large fluidised-bed installations (indicative equivalent P63 / P100).
All of our production is screened, grade by grade. That is what separates a woodchip usable in an automatic boiler from plain shredded wood: consistent particle size, with no oversize pieces to jam the feed augers; no fines, so less dust when unloading, less clinker and a cleaner heat exchanger; steady flow in the silo and on the conveyor.
An electric Jenz HEM 561 STA chipper
Chipping is done by a Jenz HEM 561 STA, a stationary machine with a 160 kW electric motor, able to process wood up to 45 cm in diameter and up to 20 tonnes per hour.
Choosing electric changes three things: no diesel burned — at full load, 160 kW for 20 t/h, i.e. around 8 kWh of electricity per tonne chipped; no fumes in the production hall; a noise level nowhere near that of a mobile diesel chipper.
450 kWp of solar on the plant roof
The plant roof carries 450 kWp of photovoltaic panels. A significant share of the electricity running the chipper is therefore produced on site, directly above the machine. That is consistent with the rest of our approach: we do not sell renewable energy produced on diesel.
FSC® certified and eligible for green certificates
Our woodchips are FSC® certified, in continuity with the certification of our sawmill. Because they come from sawmill by-products rather than dedicated roundwood, they fall within the biomass categories eligible for green certificates — a point that counts directly in the financing plan of a cogeneration plant.
Moisture measured in an oven: you pay for wood, not water
We have a drying oven that lets us measure the actual moisture content of every batch.
This is where buyers most often get caught out. Our wood has a dry-basis net calorific value of 18 GJ per tonne of dry matter, i.e. 5.00 MWh/t. But as soon as water is present, two things are deducted: the share of the mass that is not wood, and the energy spent evaporating that water.

At 35% moisture, a tonne delivered is worth no more than 60% of the same dry tonne. Two trucks at the same price per tonne can therefore deliver very different amounts of energy. That is why we offer invoicing per tonne of dry matter, backed by the moisture measurement of the batch delivered. You know exactly what you are buying, and two deliveries become comparable.
Why black locust rather than softwood
Per kilo, all species are equal: at equal moisture, a softwood delivers the same energy as a hardwood. The difference is volumetric. Black locust is one of the densest hardwoods in Europe — for the same energy delivered, that means fewer trucks, less silo volume and less handling.
